Founder & President,
Marasco Marine Ltd
Anastasios Maraslis is the Founder and President of Marasco Marine Ltd, an independent international marine insurance and reinsurance brokerage established in 1991.
His professional career in marine insurance began in 1983 and has since spanned more than four decades across marine underwriting, broking, claims management, risk advisory and the coordination of complex marine casualties.
Throughout his career, he has advised shipowners, ship managers and maritime businesses on the protection of vessels, liabilities, crews and commercial interests, with particular emphasis on Hull & Machinery, P&I, War Risks, Crew Risks, Loss of Hire and major marine claims.
A defining part of his professional approach is the belief that marine insurance should not begin with the policy wording, but with a clear understanding of the underlying risk. This philosophy led to the development of Marasco’s Risk Prevention Culture, an approach centred on identifying exposures early, asking the right questions before decisions are made and maintaining disciplined claims coordination when a casualty occurs.
Anastasios remains personally involved in major claims handled by Marasco, coordinating Owners, Underwriters, surveyors, technical consultants, average adjusters, lawyers and other specialists where required. His approach is based on three principles:
Facts before opinions.
Evidence before conclusions.
Coordination before communication.
Beyond insurance broking and claims, he has increasingly focused on maritime thought leadership and the strategic risks affecting shipowners, including geopolitical fragmentation, war-risk exposure, sanctions, capital allocation, technology and the changing structure of global shipping.
He is the author of “Chronicles of Risk, Resilience & Innovation”, a publication reflecting lessons and perspectives drawn from decades of professional experience in marine insurance, shipping risk and entrepreneurship.
He is also the author and driving force behind the Marasco Shipping Risk Outlook, Marasco Marine Ltd’s independent publication examining the strategic risks, hidden opportunities and decision-making challenges facing shipowners and maritime executives.
In recognition of his contribution to the shipping and marine insurance sector, Anastasios Maraslis was named Greek Shipping Personality 2025.
He is a member of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce, the International Propeller Club, the Piraeus Marine Club and the Panhellenic Litterateurs’ Association.
Today, his focus remains the same as when Marasco Marine Ltd was founded:
to protect clients’ interests through independence, professional judgement, disciplined claims management and long-term relationships built on trust.
